Reflected both in his artistic and in his educational work, Jacek Ludwig Scarso’s approach to voice has received worldwide acclaim. Jacek combines his interests in cross-stylistic vocal music, spoken word and the relationship between voice and physical performance. Since completing the MA Voice at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, his voice specialism has informed a variety of projects, including
MUSIC: Jacek and the Elastic Theatre ensemble have collaborated with composers internationally, with recordings including Daniel Biro’s Shir Hadash and Ivan Hussey’s Music for Elastic Theatre
Jacek directed the London Metropolitan University Choir, the LMU Performing Arts Choir and the Mary Ward World Music Choir, conducting performances at the Royal Albert Hall and the Barbican Centre. For Royal Opera House’s Fused Festival, he conducted six choirs simultaneously on a range of world music a cappella pieces.
PERFORMANCE: all Elastic Theatre productions feature a strong use of vocal music, voice improvisation and spoken word. These have explored ways to integrate different music styles in communicating complex narratives, to develop collaborative devising methodologies in opera and music theatre and to merge opera and vocal music with multimedia installation art.
EDUCATION: Jacek’s integrated voice workshops are high in demand with opera institutions internationally, including the Royal Opera House (London), Opera National de Lyon, RESEO (European Network for Opera and Dance Education), NOA Opera (Vilnius) and Opera Europa.
BOOKS/RESEARCH: Jacek published his first book Voce per Ogni Giorno with Armando Editore in Italy, looking at techniques to develop vocal skills in professional communication contexts. He regularly lectures and delivers workshops on this subject in Higher Education and in applied professional settings.
